Do’s and Don’ts of a Senior Scrapbook

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

There are many ways to make a senior scrapbook.  You will find it is easy to create a unique, one of a kind, piece of memorabilia that will delight you for decades.  Below are some Do’s and Dont’s that I think you will find helpful.

Do’s
online scrapbook pages
Collect things- anything from your senior year

Pictures (lots of those)
School newspapers to clip items from
Other newspapers to clip items about important world events
Programs from school plays
Flyers for dances
Flyers for sporting events
Notes from your teachers
Movie tickets
Receipts from thing you have purchased (showing the price of things in your senior year)
Old time cards from your job or something from the workplace
Anything from any clubs you participate in

Write a note to yourself about the things you collect.  This is important so you will remember why you saved it, when it happened, and why it is important for you to include in the scrapbook.  A sticky can accomplish this, stuck to each item or groups of items.

Keep things organized.  Keep all the things you collect together in one place.  Designate a shoe box or other suitable container.

There are a lot of ways to decorate your scrapbook.  There are some resources in other posts on this site that will show you tons of places to purchase items for your scrapbook.  But there are plenty of inexpensive ways to decorate it.

Check out your local dollar store.  They often have scrapbooking materials or other papers, stickers and other “teacher/school” items.

Wrapping paper designs make great back grounds.  You can find them in your own house, or at a dollar or thrift store.  Also you check out a wallpaper store and ask them if they have any remnants.  They get rid of them for next to nothing.

Magazines and newspapers are great for lettering for your titles and captions.  Have everyone save their stuff for you throughout the year so you will have a lot to choose from.  You can also draw your own designs if you are so talented.

Don’ts

Don’t wait until the end of the year to start collecting.  It makes your scrapbook incomplete and looking back, you will wish you had collected more.

Don’t wait until the end of the year to start organizing the things you have collected.

Don’t leave all your scrapbook stuff laying out all over where there is a chance someone might get rid of some of the things you have collected.

Don’t let anyone tell you that your scrapbook doesn’t look good.  It is an extremely personal treasure that you will love later on no matter how it looks.

Don’t rush.  Give yourself enough time for writing, drawing, and creating your pages.

Above all, don’t skip this opportunity to make your memories last a lifetime.
